I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Novation. In the studio it has taken me a while to get going with a Novation ReMOTE 37SL Midi Controller which I I’ve yet to figure out completely, its extensive array of menus are somewhat cumbersome to navigate. A latency problem that creates a “creeping” or “progressive” latency effect pretty much renders the whole keyboard section of the controller unusable after a few minutes of turning it on. Weird thing is that it seems as though the faders and knobs work just fine (no latency)!
But let’s put that aside, now take a look at Novation’s new “Dicer”, a combo of two controllers that are Midi mappable to our favorite DJ programs and can be used to control just about any parameter in the software of your choice.

Here’s our first DJ “feature” or “testimonial” for the blog, a recent new friend of the SHORT-KUTS™ family who sent us his feedback via the SHORT-KUTS™ Facebook Fan Page along with some ill shots of his MacBook Pro and SHORT-KUTS™ For ScratchLIVE™ 2.0. Also, Josh happens to be one of the world’s most dedicated Serato Control Record collectors, I dare to say, in the whole planet? More on that at the bottom of this post!

If you used to carry your sampler around to launch samples, airhorns, beats and other such elements while mixing you no longer have to depend on a separate piece of gear to accomplish this tasks. ScratchLIVE 1,9 and above offers 4 banks containing 6 samples each (24 Samples Total) that can be configured every which way and loaded with anything, a mix, a song, a sample, anything.
The new SHORT-KUTS™ for ScratchLIVE 2.0 features new stickers that clearly mark the sampler’s function keys and all new shortcuts available in ScratchLIVE 2.0.

One of the most requested features by users of ScratchLIVE™ software was to have FX within the software and to be able to control more than 2 tracks at once. Serato ScratchLIVE™ 2.0 delivers!“Serato SL3 version 2.0 beta – now with three or four decks! 3 or 4 turntables in Serato, finally! AND effects. You the DJ-FX module allows for midi-assignable Braker, Crusher, Delay, Echo, Flanger, HPF, LPF, Phaser, Repeater, Reverb, Reverser and Tremolo. You can potentially use six effects per channel simultaneously, as they’re arranged in two sets of three and can be multi-channel assigned. Big things are a-coming for sure…
If you are a Serato user looking to soak up some much needed shortcut knowledge (among other things) please, start by reading your shortcut guide that came with your hardware and don’t skimp on the MANUAL, then head over to Serato Tutor OR SeratoHQ and use your SHORT-KUTS while at the club/bedroom/etc. to put everything you learned into action!
In a short while we’ll have a series of Tutorials that you can view as well (see main menu), but as it stands, all you need to do is search and you will find tons of great resources.
Enjoy some clips after the break…
We have been following ScratchLIVE since version 1.4 or so and as it is expected with a version upgrade of any software that moves into the 2.0 realm, the debuting features of this upgrade are nothing short of AWESOME.
Here is the full list of highlights from the yet to be released (officially) 2.0 beta build:
